Math-infused Science: Data-generating Activities for Science and Math
June 16, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm EDT
$45.00(Tu June 16, 4-5:30pm EDT)
Even when learning online, students can be placed at the center of the learning experience to increase their level of engagement and self-reliance. In this workshop, teachers will learn how to use any materials at hand to generate data for mathematical analysis. I will help you develop techniques for seeing new ways to use what is available so the limitations of at-home learning do not constrain the critical thinking that occurs in your class. Because data can quickly become overwhelming and incomprehensible, we will tackle the problem of drawing useful data charts. Pairing data generation with data organization will give you a technique to help teach your students to handle large amounts of information in a visually digestible way.
Although the examples in this workshop will be based in math and science, this 1.5-hour workshop is open to teachers of all grade levels and subject areas. As is the case in all CLC workshops, participants will experience this technique firsthand and then collaborate to create an application of this teaching practice to cover their content, skills, and learning objectives.
