Math-infused Science: Representing Research Data with Graphs
June 23, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm EDT
$45.00(Tu June 23, 4-5:30pm EDT)
In this workshop participants will use an example data set to explore different methods of depicting the same set of numbers in several different ways. We will define the relationship between the research question and the visual representation of data and address the impact visual presentations make on conclusions. As a participant you will be guided through activities you can use with your students in either a synchronous (video meeting such as Zoom, Webex, or Teams) or asynchronous (i.e., Google Classroom, Moodle, Canvas, etc.) teaching platform. All activities in this workshop will be focused on helping students determine the most appropriate type of graph for their data.
Although the examples in this workshop will be based in math and science, this 1.5-hour workshop is open to teachers of all grade levels and subject areas. As is the case in all CLC workshops, participants will experience this technique firsthand and then collaborate to create an application of this teaching practice to cover their content, skills, and learning objectives.
