Approaches to Learning: Making Thinking Visible

One of the gifts of learning how to teach in a remote learning environment has been the increased use of documentation for student work. When we have moved our classes online, every step of the thinking process was recorded digitally. Optimizing what was gained from this shift teachers have several ways assignments can be rolled out such that the maturation of an idea as it emerges and learning can be captured digitally. In this 1.5-hour workshop, participants will learn techniques to document the development and refinement of student work. We will consider how an assignment can be modified to encourage students to reveal their thought processes and reflect on what triggers modifications or changes in thinking. Each participant will tailor the techniques to their own subject area skills to fit the learning objectives of their course. The techniques taught in this workshop can be utilized in either a remote or in-person classroom.
