Remote Teaching and Learning Part 4: Optimizing Critical Thinking in a Synchronous Live Streaming Class

This 1.5-hour workshop will address teaching techniques that can be used while conducting a class via live video streaming where all students would meet at the same time (aka synchronous teaching) using a platform such as Google Meets, Zoom, Teams, Webex, etc. You will be invited into a classroom meeting and participate as a student so you can judge the level of critical thinking and engagement first-hand and become familiar with the use of a live video learning environment. We will use different types of collaborative learning techniques and raise the level of student interaction using activities that can be modified to fit your course content and objectives. We will work together using example activities as a launch point for creating content for the live streaming sessions of our courses. The purpose of this workshop will be to stimulate your ideas for lesson plans so you can maintain a high level of critical thinking in your classes while maintaining a strong connection to your students.
